Sherlock Holmes & The Internet of Things @ London

Detective stories, whether in literature, film and TV have encouraged interaction. Often, I havesat watching an Agatha Christie dramatization with my family as we shout discouraging remarks to hapless victims as they enter traps, or take polls as to who we assume the killer might be.

We test our own wits and powers of deduction against a variety of fictional sleuths, whether they be wily little old ladies, charismatic Belgians or the detective’s detective himself, Sherlock Holmes.

Sherlock Holme’s legend has stood aloft for so long due to the impossibility to calibrate oneself to such a phenomenal mind and hence his enduring mystery and almost superhuman reputation.

So often, we have allowed him to take the lead on his mysteries, understanding that he will always be a step or two ahead of his audience and often his nemesis also.

Well, now we have the opportunity to no longer remain a passive spectator in Sherlock’s deductions, now we can join him at the crime scene and share our interpretation of the events that preceded our arrival.

Sherlock Holmes and the Internet of Things is a brand new global interactive game, developed by the Columbia University Digital Storytelling Lab and Learn Do Share,

where participants can don the famous deerstalker hat and role play the World famous detective. Crimes will be committed around the world and it is down to this army of sleuths to solve them and bring justice to the perpetrators

The project has been developed by a team of groundbreaking pioneers in the field of emerging storytelling and deployed by a network of international producers to a potential audiences of millions, all connected by one man’s legacy.

The game will be open both in admission and interpretation and all our encouraged to shape how the story unfolds.

In London, we will begin our narrative journey on the 3rd September at the BBC Connected labs (details to follow), and although we may have preconceptions as to how events will play out, we are excited to see how this particular mystery will unfold.
